FAQ
Who are all to be trained for confined space entry?
All personnel who may need to enter confined spaces, including workers, supervisors, and safety personnel, should be trained for confined space entry
What are confined space types in the workplace?
Confined spaces in the workplace can be categorized into two main types: permit-required confined spaces and non-permit-required confined spaces. The classification depends on hazards and the need for specific safety measures, such as entry permits.
What is the oxygen level in a confined space?
In a confined space, the oxygen level should be 19.5% – 23.5%. Oxygen levels below 19.5% are considered deficient and can pose a risk to workers, while levels above 23.5% increase the risk of fire and explosion.
What is the procedure for testing and monitoring the atmosphere in a confined space?
- Before pre-entry, use a calibrated gas detector to check for oxygen levels, flammable gases, and toxic substances.
- Regularly continue monitoring the confined space, especially in areas where conditions may change
- Follow established protocols for retesting at regular intervals, or if conditions change, evacuate immediately if hazardous conditions arise
