This bloodborne pathogens online certification course creates an awareness among participants on the rules and regulations prescribed by OSHA for California under the California version of OSHA (referred to as Cal/OSHA).The topics covered in this safety training module include various bloodborne pathogens, how workers can be exposed to these pathogens in workplaces, safety practices which can prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens, responsibilities of employers and employees in creating safe and healthy work environments, compliance procedures and emergency management.
To prevent workers from bloodborne pathogens at various workplaces such as health centres, hospitals and testing laboratories, California administration has developed its own OSHA-approved state regulations on bloodborne pathogens: California Code of Regulations, Title 8, Section 5193, also known as 8 CCR 5193. This short-term course is purely focused on the Cal/OSHA standards and not the federal regulations.
The aim of this safety course is to create awareness on the risk factors associated with working in situations where exposure to bloodborne pathogens is possible, and safety practices and regulations which employees and employers should adopt to reduce or remove possibility of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Experienced tutors will summarize the types of bloodborne pathogens, various possibilities of exposure, symptoms, how to avoid, good work practices to make work environment safe and healthy, how to remove or isolate hazards from workplaces, how to remove hospital wastes and compliance procedures. This course focuses on California OSHA-approved state regulations and reasons to achieve compliance at workplaces.
