Title

Reason: It’s a legal requirement of an employer to assure working at heights be done in safe manner.
Why : In the construction industry falls are the leading cause of worker fatalities.

Factors those could cause a fall from height?

Unsafe Workplace Conditions i.e. open edges, open penetrations not identified or protected.

Examples:Slippery, smooth or round surface.

1. Environmental Conditions: Strong wind, rain, hot weather.
2. Poor Work practices: Not observing housekeeping, not wearing fall protection device.

Q. Give a factor to consider when working at heights?

When working at heights remember to:
1. Plan your task.
2. Inspect work area and fall protection device before commencing the activity.
3. Wear fall protection device.

Q. What need to be inspected before beginning your activity?

4. Secure materials that are potential to fall.
5. Erect hand rails.
6. Install edge protector (toe boards).
7. Erect barrier and warning signs.
8. Check scaffolding is in good condition or not.
9. Ensure scaffold tags were erected and are released for use.
10. Ensure safe access provided to reach top level.

Q. Aside from hand rails and toe boards, what else need to be erected?

11. Use safe access – platform, scaffolding, man basket or mobile elevated working platform (eg: Cherry picker).
12. Before using a ladder, mobile scaffolding tags must be inspected and updated.
13. Be sure to wear a Hard Hat, secure it using a chin strap.
14. Secure the man basket gates properly and use ropes secured to the basket to control movement.
