General:

In order to stay safe we must ensure that we understand the hazards associated with movement of people and vehicles in the workplace.

What Is Workplace Transport?

Workplace transport is the movement of People and vehicles within the same area.

What is a pedestrian?

Anybody travelling on foot.

The most common vehicle accidents in the work:

  1. people being hit by vehicles
  2. people falling from vehicles
  3. objects falling from vehicles
  4. vehicles toppling over

Stay Safe

  1. Walk at a reasonable pace – NEVER RUN.
  2. Look and listen for truck movements around you.

  1. Walk on pedestrian – only routes where available.
  2. Avoid causing obstructions in walkways.
  3. Cross truck routes only after checking it is safe to do so
  4. When using shared pedestrian and truck routes give trucks a wide berth if possible
  5. Ensure that the driver is aware of your presence before approaching a truck or yard vehicle
  6. Report to you local manager any area where you consider there is a particular risk to pedestrians
  7. Report any unsafe acts or near misses involving vehicular incidents (i.e. excessive speed, failure to sound horn at junctions, travelling with forks raised)
  8. Do not cross areas with barrication.
  9. YOU MUST NOT use a mobile phone whilst walking in a vehicle movement area
