Tool box Talks – Power Washers

Power washers discharge pressures can be very high. At these pressures, water / cleaning solution can penetrate the skin and enter the bloodstream, carrying any dirt on the skin with it. Any facial opening is at greater risk.

Therefore:

  1. Always wear eye protection
  2. Never use a power washer for cleaning off any part of the body or clothing.
  3. Keep others away from flying debris
  4. Drain down system and wash area in winter
  5. Never point the lance at anyone – even if switched off.
  6. Always hold lance correctly – one hand on the barrel, one on handle to steady and direct.
  7. Wear correct PPE – gloves / boots / hard hat / hearing protection and mask, where required.
  1. Never use the gun with the trigger locked on.
  2. Always release residual pressure on completion of task or when lance left unattended.
  3. Do not direct jet at persons / animals or electrical equipment.
  4. Ensure equipment is in good condition.
  5. Ensure any guards / covers are in place.
  6. Ensure delivery and suction hoses are not kinked.
  7. Follow manufacturers instructions and use only recommended cleaning agents.
