Tool box Talks – Power Washers
Power washers discharge pressures can be very high. At these pressures, water / cleaning solution can penetrate the skin and enter the bloodstream, carrying any dirt on the skin with it. Any facial opening is at greater risk.
Therefore:
- Always wear eye protection
- Never use a power washer for cleaning off any part of the body or clothing.
- Keep others away from flying debris
- Drain down system and wash area in winter
- Never point the lance at anyone – even if switched off.
- Always hold lance correctly – one hand on the barrel, one on handle to steady and direct.
- Wear correct PPE – gloves / boots / hard hat / hearing protection and mask, where required.
- Never use the gun with the trigger locked on.
- Always release residual pressure on completion of task or when lance left unattended.
- Do not direct jet at persons / animals or electrical equipment.
- Ensure equipment is in good condition.
- Ensure any guards / covers are in place.
- Ensure delivery and suction hoses are not kinked.
- Follow manufacturers instructions and use only recommended cleaning agents.
