INTRODUCTION
It’s a requirement of an employer to assure quayside activities be done in safe manner in accordance with Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) rules & regulations (EHS).To carry out quayside activities, required permits must be obtained from a PCFC approved third party certification bodies. All concerns regarding the planned activity such as transportation, load out and sail away, must be notified to port authorities in a timely manner.

Reason: Quayside activities are high risk activity.
Why: Everybody should know the safety measures to be adhered to.

Hazards
1. Fall from height
2. Drowning
3. Explosion
4. Heat Exhaustion
5. Slip/ Trips
Safety Measures to be taken

1. Use proper access at all times.
2. Ensure each personnel possess own tag (token), and comply with the tag in – tag out system.
3. Ensure to wear work vest (life jacket) before alighting the barge.
4. Do inspect work vest (life jacket) for defects.
5. Check all tools & equipment do not bring on board damage tools and equipment.
6. Keep work vest (Life Jacket) fastenings at all times.
7. Do not smoke.
8. Avoid eating on board.
9. Maintain good house keeping; do not dump anything into the sea, use provided skips.
10. Sufficient lighting must be provided during night time operation.
11. If went over board, do not panic, rescue boat is on stand by.
12. Drink plenty of water to avoid “Heat Illness”.
13. Be alert to all vehicular traffic at all times
