Make your interview a grand success to secure your HSE job

So, you are now secured the most outstanding qualification in occupational health and safety (OHS) and are ready to get employed in an organization as HSE trainee or probationer.

How well prepared are you to face the interview board or panel?
What are the things you should know and do before you face the interview?
What are the obvious questions you will face or how to be impressive to secure the job?

Even you have an impressive profile, you can’t expect to get the employment if you fail to be impressive. So, here are few tips to win your dream job.

First, prepare an impressive and clear profile of yours indicating your qualifications, experiences, if any, your interests, strengths and career ambition.

When you apply for job opportunities, make sure you select the right ones which suit your qualification and experience. Otherwise, you will be wasting your time and energy in simply shooting your resume aimlessly to so many places and in return, gets nothing.

Research about company:

When you get an interview call, make sure that you know the direction, mode of reach and travel time to reach the place safely well within the specified time.

Do a thorough research about the company on the internet or other available sources to understand the business model and prepare some questions to ask about the organization when your turn comes.

Behavior in discussion panel

Arrive at the venue few minutes before the designated time with neatly dressed and carry yourself nicely with the staff there. Ensure that you don’t use strong perfume and uncomfortable footwear which can be embarrassing.

Be polite to greet the interview personnel with a smile while entering the room after a customary knock. After you have settled down in a chair allotted for you, introduce yourselves confidently and thank them for calling you for the interview.

Sit straight throughout the interview and never show weariness. If you don’t know the answer to a question, be straight to admit it gently but give them an impression that you are a person who always wants to learn new things.

There will be some general questions from the interview panel which you should be prepared to answer convincingly. For example, questions like ‘Why did you apply for this position’, why the job appealed to you, ‘what are your strengths and weaknesses’, ‘what can you bring to the organization’ and they will also ask you to solve a workplace safety problem to check your understanding, problem solving ability and agility.
